Founded
in 1977 by Clare and Michael Packard, Packard Publishing Limited
(PPL) set out to be a low-overhead
publisher and distributor
of books and journals aimed at university and professional levels,
colleges and secondary schools (mostly at A-level in the UK). The
company reflects Michael Packard’s previous fifteen years’ experience
in publishing in Canada, the USA and UK, and with printed music
in London.
Recent
emphasis has been placed on the conservation and management of threatened
and vulnerable environments, on invasive species, restoration of
damaged landscapes and aspects of the professional design of gardens
and landscapes and their history – also critical biographies of
influential designers – together with studies of contemporary and
historical rural subjects. Languages, particularly French, are also
of interest.
